@Stormgren ah! that explains the hit or miss-ness of the bands today!
everything between #17m and #10m is almost completely dead here
Delightfully unsettled #ionosphere today on #17m.
I think if I was under some sort of pressure for points, or a high rate, it might be frustrating. A long time ago, when it looked like I would keep doing #contesting, I remember the constant pressure to monitor rate and move "early". The idea was to not have any decline in rate. It was better to move early than stay on a band too late.
Logging and telemetry are so much better now I have to imagine ops are even more efficient/effective.
I've been on #17m #ft8 building up contacts for whatever awards and cards I get. It's been *super* fun for several reasons.
1) I know why ft8 works so well. I know a lot about #LDPC codes and #digital comms. It's a joy to use this mode. It's literally the best FEC outside of #Polar codes. We rock!
2) It seems to tick off the local very old white male DX club to no end that "lazy people are getting dxcc for nothing!" rawr grumble fulminate etc

I was able to work 2 DXpeditions (3B7M and J8NY) this weekend on #17m using FT8's Fox and Hound mode - a first for me. I heard 3B7M on #SSB but never got through.
Also, for another victory, I also had 2 #RTTY QSOs on #10m - one of which was with a station trying it it for the first time. I'd like to see the mode used more and I think it has much potential for #DX people aren't considering.

"And you didn't take any photos?"
Back from 'the hill' my wife mentioning this! 🤠
Indeed, I had a nice afternoon joining the #ARRL contest on #10m and #15m, worked an #ATNO in #12m (Agalega/St. Brandon) and finished with some QSO on #20m and #17m.
Dexter and Stubbsi were delighted as well. 😉 #hamradio
