A moment in time - 1820 - "The Census Taker". Those of us charting our family history will note, bitterly, that back in 1820 the federal census takers were only recording the names of heads of households, not the names and ages of other household members - something that makes the censuses prior to 1850 very tricky to use. There is a breakdown by sex and age range for the other household members, which isn't always helpful.
