I anticipate that there will be a set of commercial identity broker and identity verification service providers who are gong to come out with some variation of a narrative that .gov should not be trusted to run a shared service.

My perspective is that this news is a clear demonstration of exactly why .gov should run these types of services -- because of the #Accountability, #Oversight and #Transparency that is baked in!

Additionally, very impressed with the GSA IG folks who did this investigation ... The report clearly indicates their *technical understanding* of the domain as well as their understanding of the *policy implications*

Can you show me an example in the private sector where an organization self-identified the problem, and corrected it with this degree of transparency and accountability?
