Patrick Pearse, poet, writer, founder of Scoil Eanna (St Enda’s) in 1908 and commander-in-chief of the forces of the Irish Republic during the Easter Rising, was executed in Kilmainham Jail, 1916.

The most brutal thing about the Irish Free State's refusal of a proper pension to Thomas Bryan's widow is that they did not properly investigate her claim that he had been at the terrible fight around Clanwilliam House, Mount Street, in the 1916 Easter Rising, and refused her a 1916-connected pension. Here he is listed in the Active Service Unit involved in that fight militaryarchives.ie/collection
