Kenneth Harlan (July 26, 1895 – March 6, 1967). If you were an actress in Hollywood and hadn’t married him, you must have reckoned that you were doing something wrong - Kenneth married nine times. And he also managed to find time to make 200 movies and serials.

Another cutaway, a bit out of my usual wheelhouse but useful for Call of Cthulhu, I'd say.

This was printed in Film Daily magazine in 1927, and Wikipedia says about the Roxy "was located just off Times Square in New York City from 1927 to 1960. Seating 5,920 patrons at a time it was "a leading Broadway film showcase through the 1950s and also noted for its lavish stage shows".

I'm dying to see this film. I knew nothing about the murders in the Osage Nation (Oklahoma) over oil and money, but there's also a great video distilling the main elements explored by the book that *finally* brought a forgotten case back out in the open. I watched the video, of course, and now I want to see if the local library has David Grann's book.

You have a magical time machine…

You are casting an actress to play an investigative reporter in a 1920s film noir set in Hollywood. She’s sassy, intelligent, attractive, courageous and confident.

You have a shortlist of the following actresses, all in their prime. Who would you select to play the role?

The Kiss (1929) was Greta Garbo’s, and MGM’s, last silent film. In fact, the film is not entirely silent: MGM incorporated an orchestral score and sound effects recorded by the Movietone system.

1924, Mary Pickford emerges from her portable dressing room during the filming of Dorothy Vernon of Haddon Hall. Even though Mary Pickford didn’t like the talkies, she adapted. However, after years of playing ingénues, she struggled with “grown up” roles.
