L'ancienne institutrice, figure emblématique du plateau, y est née en 1918. La #1GM n'était pas encore achevée.

Elle est retraitée depuis près de 50 ans. Récit d’une vie d'un autre temps.

"Les pieds dans la neige ou dans l’eau, c’est comme ça qu’on apprend la vie. Un enfant, il ne faut pas trop le chouchouter, parce que la vie ne nous a pas toujours chouchoutés."

@MelRootsNWrites He is listed as missing on Sept 8, 1915 at La Harazée (Vienne-le-Château), with no official notice. Then it says that he was taken prisoner in Argonne (where the fighting was) and interned at the Vahn (Wahn) camp. I understand that in the heat of the fighting, he was taken prisoner, and the official authorities initially reported him missing before being officially informed.

A sorry looking #grandeguerre #1GM #WW1 memorial to 79e régiment d’infanterie near Deuxville (54). Very much in need of restoration if it’s to look like the regimental badge should in the image from Wikipedia.

The memorial commemorates the regiment’s role as part of 11e division d’infanterie (« la Division de fer ») in the bataille du Grand-Couronné which took place at the same time as the first battle of the Marne in September 1914, and which prevented a German advance through Lorraine. #FWW
