First spin since I’ve been back home.
The first four Wilco records are excellent, and YHF is still their greatest artistic achievement.
I have no use for Wilco after this album.
Once Jay Bennett was fired, they lost something. A BIG something. And for me, they’ve only gotten progressively worse as the years have gone on. But THIS? A masterpiece.

2020 Europe 2xLP reissue

Far and away my favorite Doves 🕊 album. I bought it the day it came out in ‘02, and it was pretty much all I listened to for the following six months. It’s such a hypnotizing and euphoric album, and the guitar work on it is exquisite. Easily one of my three favorite albums of the Oughts.

I've been revisiting this album recently and remembering how much it opened my ears 20 years ago. Not sure exactly what to call it.... Chamber Appalachian?

I didn't really begin to appreciate until my early 20s, and this album is one of the primary texts that made me more receptive to stuff outside of the weird jazz I mostly listened to. Plus it was one of my late brother's faves, so there's a strong sentimental connection too.

I love David Bazan’s songwriting. He’s got one of those voices that can’t be mistaken for anyone else.

The murderous run of the first three Pedro records (of which this is the second) are a grand indie rock high watermark, and I think this one is my favorite. Control is a close second, but if I’m in the mood for a PTL record, this is what I usually reach for.
