I remember for several years on dA it was common to do an art meme where you'd show a few pieces from each year and add on to it every year, those were fun to look at. Unfortunately mine ends in 2010 because after that I started doing comics and didn't do enough stand-alone drawings to fill it out ._.

People on twitter are doing that #2009vs2019 meme and looking at my old art makes my skin crawl so I dunno if I'm brave enough to toss it on there yet. The first two are from 2009 and the second two are from this year.

Okay so all this talk of the decade ending has me super nostalgic and it's been interesting to look back things. I wanted to redraw something from 2009, a year when I still hadn't drawn anything digitally, and I happened to have a drawing I redrew in 2016, so it's nice to examine the differences with all three.

Absinthe was roughed out on paper, and finished in Illustrator with the pen tool and a starkly limited palette.

Parallax is drawn entirely in Illustrator, with the pencil tool and a whole lot of graphic styles that let me draw complex characters quickly.

I don't have any hard numbers on how long a typical Absinthe panel took to draw but I am quite sure it was a lot longer than a typical Parallax panel.

2009 vs 2019 in terms of art, i've come a long way! It's always neat to look back and see how much i've improved. :)

Went from not even knowing what colour theory is to using 3d tools, digital painting and loving the process of improvement!

Haven't been drawing for a full decade either, this cursed image is from 2010 when I decided to do art as a career. (didn't know concept art existed, didn't know anything existed) What is colour theory

Now, using digital tools more than ever and aiming to do more!

I can't tell if it's #2009vs2019 or #2010vs2019 but either way my fashion levels went through the roof this decade.
