Can't hide the rocks.

I wrote about how astronomers getting advance notice of a tiny meteor crashing into southwestern Ontario proves that the government can’t hide killer asteroids from you (or prevent you from finding them yourself) sciencefocus.com/news/you-help for @sciencfous@twitter.com

@fcain @r000t More seriously: Current and upcoming survey programs are designed to give days to weeks of notice for most things like the 2013 Chelyabinsk impactor.

For things a thousand times less massive that don't directly endanger people like , they only give hours of notice.

A small asteroid burned up over Southern Ontario Saturday morning, and was followed by another bright fireball Saturday night.
- the first is now one of only six asteroids that were discovered prior to impact, and it may be the only one that impacted over a heavily populated area!

Scientists now think the small asteroid that hit the atmosphere over Ontario on Saturday dropped meteorites.

Recovery would be of real scientific importance, not least because was observed in space prior to impact.

Image description for last post, since I still can't add those with the reposting tool:

Estimated ground track for meteorites that were part of asteroid / before it impacted Earth's atmosphere early on the morning of 2022 November 19.

The track runs along the southern coast of Lake Ontario, with some meteorites having landed in the lake and others potentially having landed on the shoreline west of the city of St. Catharines.

Detected by weather radar from Buffalo, New York.
