New main mass found yesterday in France, from asteroid 2023 CX1! Located by French meteorite hunter Thierry Monter, it was likely over 350 grams, but it shattered on impact with the hard ground. Recovered: 70g, 52g (pictured), and many more tiny pieces ! #2023cx1 #meteorites https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1630047596059283457

Updated map posted for France! At least 14 meteorites found, totalling 406 grams. The latest map predicts the most likely areas to find meteorites, considering precise trajectory, wind, finds, and searched areas. #strewnfield #meteorites #2023cx1 https://www.strewnify.com/y20230213_02z_31u/

For the record re. the #meteorites from #2023CX1 the independent collectors Steve Arnold and Roberto Vargas had already on February 20th reported finding "the new main mass! A beautiful 178g stone, with a broken face and visible #chondrules" in https://twitter.com/hellospacething/status/1627719795389890560 but Vigie Ciel hadn't included it in their tally published on the 22nd. We'll see how this turns out ...

So far 12 #meteorites from #2023CX1 have been recovered, a big one (90 grams, the first find) and 11 others from 2 to 24 grams: https://www.vigie-ciel.org/2023/02/22/meteorites-normandes-bilan-dune-folle-semaine/ (includes a #strewnfield map).

Meanwhile here is a video summary of the #2023CX1 fall and its seven meteorites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvCtJNnFD_w
Yay, according to https://allsky7.groups.io/g/main/message/42 the first #meteorite from the #Texas event has been recovered - and together with another such success in Italy and at least seven meteorites from the French case (with the object #2023CX1 seen before it hit Earth) we have just seen THREE fireballs with collected fresh meteorites in a single week! Each such event is rare but a cluster of three is truly unique in geophysics history, AFAIK.

By now seven (!) meteorites from #2023CX1 have been found: https://twitter.com/VigieCiel/status/1626647526995595274 7 and https://twitter.com/cieletespace/status/1626601702827884545 and https://twitter.com/LouBenoiste/status/1626665332680056837
The history of the #2023CX1 meteorite is somewhat astonishing:
4.5 Gyr ago: condensed out of protosolar nebula and orbits in space
...some time passes...
Last Saturday: nothing happened
Last Sunday: nothing happened
Last Monday 0259 UT: Hey! there's a planet right theAAAAGH SO SO SO HOT BOOM
Fragment lands in grassy field
*changes status from meteor to meteorite*
Monday morning: the Sun rises on an overcast day
Last monday afternoon: Discovered by Loïs Leblanc https://www.imo.net/pieces-of-2023-cx1-recovered-in-normandy/
A potential second meteorite from #2023CX1: https://twitter.com/VigieCiel/status/1626315323564601347 - verification pending.
@dlr_next In Frankreich wurde vom FRIPON Team nun ein Stück des Meteoriten 2023 CX1 gefunden, der 7 Stunden vor dem Eintritt in die Atmosphäre entdeckt wurde!
