The Stena ferry from Rostock (DE) to Trelleborg (Swe) is nowhere near as luxurious as the Harwich–Hoek one. But it's also half the price.
#TravelTip for tea addicts. Keep your mug after buying one £3 cuppa and – You have teabags with you, yeah? Oh, just me? – you can get a brew in the morning without paying again.

Happy (er, glad I will be hundreds of miles away) to report that Germany is as usual stocking up massively on new year's eve fireworks. Guy on the bus in Rostock had 5 big bags, plus packs of rockets under each arm.

Good morning Rotterdam.
It's a 25-minute RET metro ride from the port at Hoek to the nearest rail station at Schiedam.
#TravelTip. You can use an OV chip card (works throughout the Netherlands), loaded with euros of credit, to touch in and hop on.
But it is actually cheaper to buy a RET ticket for two hours travel than use any prepaid OV credit.

Boarding delayed on the overnight Stena ferry from Harwich to Hoek van Holland. But on now, and pleased to report my ferry ponce (Stena Gold) membership means not just free wine in the ship's lounge but now also… free hummus.

But today has been a good start to my return travel #notflying from Wales to Sweden.
A guy on a train gave me a whole (small) box of Ferrero Rocher chocolates. A woman on a bus gave me a wholly unexpected hat compliment.
