Currently reading #Remote by the people from #37signals. A nice and light read; for more in-depth guidelines I recommend the #GitLab Handbook, which is not about GitLab the product but how they make remote work awesome!

They advocate for "a single, permanent chat room where everyone hangs out all day to shoot the breeze, post funny pictures, and generally goof around" which I tried to establish at $work as well (due to very positive experience with that at @secfaultsec@twittee.com). But they give another good reason that never occurred to me:

> it's a quality waste of time *with your coworkers*.

While we all may distract ourselves for some time, we could just as well do it together. Not everyone sitting alone in their home scrolling Reddit (fine as well though) and feeling guilty about it (not fine), but transparently goofing off on company time together. No shame but only socializing. It's not increasing the time goofing off but making a place for it, where it's healthy.

Just found out about #mrsk from #37signals of #basecamp fame. A new spin on a deployment system.🤔 Void of #kubernetes or any job orchestrator for that matter.

You don't need orchestrators to do deployments. 😅 It's only when you add multiple machines when things get chaotic.
