The problem with infrastructure is that we try and meet demand instead of managing demand. The infrastructure ‘industry’ likes us to meet demand because they make more money and where do we go for infrastructure expertise?
#Infrastructure #Roads #3Waters
For instance, roads are designed for a capacity, say 1000 trips an hour at peak. Supposing instead we decide that the current road has capacity of 800 trips so we manage demand instead?

#NZTwits, a very real and frightening reality to consider when deciding how to cast your #NZVotes2023 #NZPol #PartyVote is who owns and controls #Aotearoa #NewZealand. The attempts for the Govt's #3Waters urgent investment and upgrades has not only been opposed to by both National & ACT but have been stymied by far right racist rhetoric and political opportunists funded by dark money.
#NZTwits #NZVotes2023 #nzpol #partyvote #aotearoa #newzealand #3Waters
The compromise demanded by some local govt bodies will mean a reduction in the Labour Govt's #3Waters economic benefits. But even with these compromises it still means household savings for water costs. It also means immediate work can begin on restoring and improving #NZTwits neglected water quality and infrastructure. #NZPol

How utterly useless is Wayne Brown? ⬇️

Kieran McAnulty meets with West Coast mayors to discuss water reform.
"The reality is we're already sending people in Westport a bill for over $1000 for drinking water and close to $1000 for wastewater, so they're paying $2000 a year now for those services and think within a relatively short time, within five years they'll be paying closer to $4000 for water services."
The Coast badly needs water reform, but not all Councils realise that, yet.
We really, really need #3Waters.
“The council's increasingly worrying level of debt, and pile of infrastructure projects it can't fund, can be traced back to a decision it made in the early 1990s.”
@BobLefridge It’s not hard to work out why National and ACT are doing everything they can to stop #3Waters going through or repeal it if there’s a change of government. There’s huge money to be made from water as a commodity which will be near impossible to cash in on with Māori co-governance.
@jeremy_pm i mean, I'd actually forgotten where the conversation started.
To be fair, you're hassling mean about a smart ass comment I made about #3Waters mahi tahi poll you ran in Mastodon 😂
@paw @BigD @ArrestJK Yes. Imo, his big mistake was personalising his criticism rather than speaking about the implications of ignoring #3Waters and the problems with National's nothing burger policy. He called out the Nat's for dog whistling and everyone knows he's right but, sometimes, calling out racism is a bigger crime than racism.
Listen to National Party #3Waters spokesperson, Simon Watts' answer here @ 4:20 ...the difference with our model is we're not going to mandate the legal structure or the entity in which they have to form to achieve that. 🚩 🚩 🚩
#NZPol Leaves the door wide open for either #SellingAssets or #Privatisation of NZ's water and it's infrastructure. #NeverTrustATory

Hey #NZTwits, I highly recommend you take a look at this interactive map of current water costs and future cost forecasts with and without Labour's proposed #3Waters legislation gong ahead. #NZPol

@ArrestJK You forgot to add National’s proposal will require far more bureaucrats and be far more expensive on ratepayers. The 4 regional organisations under Labour’s #3Waters proposal are designed to include 1 million+ users in each region. This means a far more economical solution and doesn’t dilute the number and cost of specialist hydraulic engineers across the motu.
Surprise, surprise.
Beyond the “whatever Labour proposes is bad” and the set PR talking points - National’s alternative to #3Waters fails to pass muster, especially ignoring the reality of local councils constrained debt capacity/borrowing ability to fund water infrastructure.
#3Waters #water #infrastructre #floods
@CarolynStirling The real cunning stunt by National is their proposal allows Councils to seek their own independent way of funding the costs of replacing/rebuilding their #3Waters infrastructure. How many Councils if any can afford without whole or part privatisation?
My cartoon in today's Dominion Post & online @NZStuff
A little light reading...as in light on detail for the newest 'proposal' from the National Party.

Time for a #NZTwits #3Waters #NZPol poll.
Do you believe Māori mahi tahi (co-governance) representation on the boards managing NZ's water infrastructure will be good for all NZers in the long term and protect NZ's Three Water infrastructure or management from privatisation. Boost for audience participation.
A #3waters interview / explainer. No really mysteries there. Most objections are obviously racist. Also catching on / planning on decades of piecemeal infrastructure needs long term financing and is opposite the political cries for low rates. Infrastructure can't easily be funded in short term windows.
