Finally got around to buying a 3D Printer; my only experience setting up a 3D Printer was a Kickstarter from years ago my old boss got; it took days to build and calibrate. The one I ended up going with was an AnkerMake M5C (https://www.ankermake.com/uk/m5c).

Within 10 minutes, it was set up, another 10 minutes to level and then printing. Did the #3DBenchy test and also printed “The Object”.

I’ve been #3dprinting since I got my Ender 3 Pro on 13. January 2022, but today was the first time I did a #3dbenchy. It did come out with a weird layer shift on one side of the bow. 🤔

Printed with orange eSUN PLA+, which has given me my first rendezvous with stringing. Did not experience that when I printer with the same brand and type, but in grey. You learn something every day. 🤓

LW-PLA (aka. PLA-Aero) is not as easy to print as regular PLA but it is so much lighter! The green #3DBenchy is made of BambuLab Basic PLA using 10% infill, it weighs more than 10g; whereas the red one is made of ColorFabb LW-PLA using 15% infill, it weighs less than 5g 🪶

There are so many filament brands and types. I don't really want to buy 1 kg spool without knowing what it'll print like. Recently, I've noticed that the UK-based 3DFilaPrint sells 10 m samples: https://3dfilaprint.com/filament-samples/ and that a #3DBenchy uses about 5 m of filament.
The photo shows benchies of Proto-pasta HTPLA Matte Fibre Black (nice matte effect, a bit stringy) and Polymaker PolyTerra PLA Sakura Pink (nice matte effect).

Printed a #3DBenchy just for fun. Never seen a Benchy name plate this sharp before. Never really seen that nameplate at all actually. My old Vertex FDM printer definitely can’t do it. 😆
