#5e may arguably be the most mechanically elegant version of #dnd yet conceived, but having first really played with #3e (to say nothing of the sheer volume of material produced for it), I still find myself nostalgic for its heedlessly unbounded modularity. Anyone else occasionally feel compelled to break out the prestige classes and build a 20-level monstrosity?

@Tesqovara Turns out you can get the White Plume Mountain Revised for 3.5 for $0.69 right now at drive through RPG which includes the 7 page "outside the mountain" supplement containing #3E stat blocks for Dragotha and Thingizzed the witch (who was statted up in #2E for _Return to WPM_)

I was very happy with the 3.5 update for WPM, a clean and accessible translation of the original, even though by the time my heroes got to it they were in #13thAge

@Dionysus @Yora I ran Isle of Dread one in two parts “recently” separated by a decade - in 2010 I ran it in #3E and we had to stop halfway through due to people having kids. I picked it up again with 3 of the original players in 2020 over Roll20 in #13thAge with the PCs reaching the island center, where I had replaced the temple with White Plume Mountain.

It all worked pretty much like a dream. The island is such a strong hexcrawl. The Dungeon Magazine article updating it to 3E is top notch.

@AndreasKjeldsen Was not really a fan of the Alternity system itself. But Dark*Matter and Star*Drive were neat settings, and I loved some of the species you could play, like these guys.

Sounds weird to say given the current OGL crisis, but I always used to wish they had re-released the Alterniry content as d20 Modern material during the D&D 3E era.

@YUMDM ah I love #3e typesetting as much as I dislike lackluster game design.

Which book is it?

I don't have #4E but in #5E its pretty much the same as #3E but with a strange addendum that the lights can't be more than 20' from each other. Not sure why that specificity.

By #13thAge it's something all sorcerers get for free, but the globes are winking in and out, uncontrolled, and may have dramatic implications. The magic has been completely divorced from its original design and utility; only the name is the same.

Pratique le train : 2 tablettes pour moi tte seule : de la place pour corriger les cartes mentales de mes #3e sur le #Frontpopulaire. Et ils se sont bien débrouillés même si j'ai dû mettre le chronomètre pour les faire avancer sans bavardages inutiles .
