I am not an active ham (KB0ZMS), but I am frustrated by the DQRM directed at the Bouvet Island DXpedition (3Y0J). I just cannot wrap my head around what anyone gains from blocking others from gaining a rare one, plus all the mean-spirited griping and general nastiness. People can be so disappointing.
The Radio Amateur's Code starts with “never knowingly operates in such a way as to lessen the pleasure of others.”

I'd have to get incredibly lucky to work #3y0j on my little station, but it would be neat to at least hear them. Any minute now, right?
Hearing plenty of hounds, but not the fox.
" #3Y0J may go QRT (...) as a big storm is passing through between now and Thursday. ... The nine on-island team members will remain on the island and hunker down, as it is too difficult and dangerous to go back to the Marama, which has moved even farther from #Bouvet in preparation for the storm."
Stay safe and healthy, guys!
Oh! There's a street lamp on the NW corner of my lot. The pole is steel, and much more than 17.5' tall. I wonder if I could borrow that as a reflector, to make a 3-element vertical yagi pointing SSE.
Dang, now I need a #HamRadio #YouTuber (like @k0lwc) to come shoot video of these shenanigans, just in case it works.
1. Estimate height of light pole.
2. Model the array in MMANA.
3. #StealUnderwear.
4. ???
5. #3Y0J
6. Profit!

My Inverted Vee antenna legs point WNW-ESE.
The pskreporter pink "blob" 1st bounce arc is SSE now, but that has more to do with time of day (just past sunrise in MN) on 20m, than anything else.
Do I get some contacts in SA? Sure, some. It's an Inverted Vee, not a fully horizontal dipole. But still, that's a weak direction for me. It's angled to favor Europe over the Arctic Circle.
I wonder if I'd have better luck hearing #3Y0J if I changed the angle for the next few days.
Excellent video presentation and Q&A about the upcoming 3Y0J Bouvet DXpedition, by team member Adrian, KO8SCA.
