Interestingly, I received an email today at work that they were limiting how much one could invest in company stock with one's #401k. They went into this lecture on diversifying one's stock portfolio. My 401k is very, very tiny, but I know enough not to increase my investment in the company anyways. Still, this had me worried that the company might be worried about going under. At least that was my first thought, but there have been no indicators of that.

Listening to #401k providers explain why we shouldn't worry about #inflation makes me more inclined to be worried about inflation.

The #401k/ #IRA/ #RothIRA roll-your-own retirement savings scheme was never intended to be a scam. It just had a serious dumb fatal flaw. If everyone retires at the same time the whole system crashes.

Hey y'all, I am seeing some claims on here that the law change happening right now delays 401k withdrawal dates to age 73. There seems to be some confusion or possible misinformation circulating on this.

Every reference I can find shows that RMD (being forced to take money out of your 401k) is being pushed to age 73.

No change to the age you can choose to take money out if you need it.

That's a completely fair perspective. To me there are benefits in helping people save for retirement, and downsides in helping public companies inflate their stock prices using the retirement savings of most American workers, making their wealthy investors even wealthier. And if you look at the composition of these funds, many include abhorrent companies the employee would never choose, e.g. Altria, Monsanto, Exxon, etc.

Congress's $1.7T bill includes changes to employee retirement/savings programs. IMO this one is mostly a giveaway to Wall St.:

"The bill would require employers to automatically enroll employees in 401(k) and 403(b) plans starting in 2025."

If you have a 401(k) managed by a big bank, it's likely that many of the funds you're invested in buy the stock of the same bank.
