In 3⃣ days, Deep Space Station 43 marks 50 years supporting both human and robotic missions exploring the Solar System and beyond.
#DSS43 started construction in October 1969. It was ready for operations in late 1972. Its first mission support was Apollo 17 in Dec.'72.🌖 #43at50

It’s hard to appreciate the 70-metre antenna’s scale. Just to give you a hint, the central multi-cone structure alone, which houses the transmitters and receivers, is the height of a 5-storey building.
