NEW ORDER
Blue Monday / The Beach
1983 UK 12” #45rpm
This came into the store just 30 secs before I showed up yesterday. And 30 secs later, it left again. 😂
Sometimes, timing is everything.
On the topic of New Order, it’s been said that this was kind of where Joy Division was headed anyway, as they were experimenting with this stuff when Ian died.
There’s a good chance that if theyd gone on that US tour, this is what the next JD record may had sounded like.

TRIPPING DAISY
Bill
2023 U.S. 2xLP reissue #45rpm
Ltd. Ed. NUMBERED
Psychedelic Bubble Gum #vinyl
I preordered this in APRIL of last year, and due to fuckery and tomfoolery, it kept getting delayed.
Today, it finally showed up.
And it was WORTH THE WAIT!!!
This is the first ever vinyl pressing of this #psychpop masterpiece. Tripping Daisy is one of my three favorite bands ever, and my vinyl discography is finally complete!
Number 000352 of 2,000.

DADA
Dizz Knee Land / Posters
1993 UK 7” single #45rpm
One of my all time favorite #90s songs!!! The complete album is borderline impossible to find (only ‘92 pressings from Brazil and Spain were pressed), so until somebody comes to their senses and reissues it, this single (along with the one for “Dim”) will have to do.
It’s a great album. Somebody needs to get on that. It’s not like I.R.S. is some super obscure label.

ROLLER “CHICKEN” BAND
Banana 🍌 Roller
1986 Italy 7” single #45rpm
File this one under:
WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK?!?!
I did not buy this today, but now, after listening to the song, I probably should have, because it’s so fucking weird.
This is just straight up Italian disco nonsense, sung in Italian, & sounds like a cartoon theme song from Hell.
I took a picture of it before I left the store & before I heard it because I really liked the label.
That’s a cool looking label.

THE WHIGS
Like A Vibration / That's A Lot To Live Up To (Demo)
2008 UK 7” single #45rpm
Few songs get me as amped up & rockin as this great song by The Whigs.
In 2008, I was still making mix CDs for friends & giving them away as gifts at Christmas.
Like A Vibration is also a hell of a lot of fun to play/perform in front of a live crowd.
Weve slipped it into our live set occasionally, & it never fails to get people bouncing.
Check the song out in the comments if you wish.

THE ICICLE WORKS
Whisper To A Scream (Birds Fly) / Scarecrow
1984 Canada 7” single #45rpm
When people talk about great songs from the #80s , I feel like this gem NEVER gets mentioned.
Whisper To A Scream is a phenomenal pop song.
The band had to go through a BUNCH of bullshit to even get it released as a single in America (you can go to Wikipedia for all that nonsense), but to everyone’s benefit, it was put out there. I first heard it on MTV as a kid & loved it.

Today, while out digging for #vinylrecords , I stumbled across a shoebox FULL of empty paper #japanese #45rpm sleeves.
I found them absolutely striking, and interesting art pieces. I offered the owner of the place some money for them, but he just told me to take them.
These two are my favorite of the bunch, particularly the alien girl one.
These are going in frames and going up on my studio wall. Aren’t they beautiful?

MAGAZINE
Shot By Both Sides / My Mind Aint So Open
1978 UK 7” single #45rpm
One of the greatest punk/post punk singles of all time.
Howard Devoto is one of the most underrated musical geniuses of all time, and as far as Magazine goes, their first 3 albums are flawless. I’ve been asked that age old hypothetical question all the time:
If you can go back to any point and see any band live at any time… who?
My answer is almost always Magazine.

THE CLIQUE
Sugar On Sunday / Superman
1969 Canada 7” single #45rpm
Forget Sugar On Sunday.
Not why I’m posting this.
There’s no reason why that should even be the A-side.
I first time I heard the sublime “Superman” was on the 1986 R.E.M. album Life’s Rich Pageant.
For years and years following, I thought that it was an R.E.M. song. Years later, I find out it’s from the late #1960s , and it’s by a bunch of dudes from Houston, Texas.
Honestly one of my fave #pop songs ever.

We lost Jane Birkin this morning.
She was a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice.
“Je t'aime... moi non plus” was originally written for Bridget Bardot by Serge Gainsbourg, but it was Birkin’s hyper sexual vocal that made it famous.
Only an asshole would see it for anything other than what it is; a gorgeous love song.
If this song was all she ever accomplished, life well lived.
However, it wasn’t.
There was so much more.
This is my #45rpm single #vinyl copy.

POPDEFECT
Playing For Time
1983 U.S. 12” E.P. #45rpm
Few bands had the kind of unique existence that POPDEFECT had. This is the first non-single they ever put out, and I feel lucky to have it.
They’d set out on tours with NO shows booked. They’d just get on bills as they went along. They became a fixture of L.A. and toured constantly for many years.
I am looking for their first full album Live With This. If you see one, I’ll trade you my car for it. 🚘

Another great pile of 7” singles and E.P.S from my #45rpm bonanza from this past week. Still so much to go through!
Few of my favourites from this pile: Adam Schlesinger’s theme song to one of my favorite movies ever That Thing You Do, a RSD Side By Side of #davidbowie and Tom Verlaine, more Richard Nixon nonsense, and some sweet Bauhaus action!

SUPER DELUXE
She Came On / On Lisa
1996 U.S. 7” single #45rpm
Pink vinyl
Rise and shine time. A bite sized helping of note-perfect power pop to get my Sunday going.
She Came On is the best song in their entire catalog, and probably their only excellent one. I first heard it on one of the many monthly CMJ Music Samplers I used to get in the mail in the #90s .
A great song.

GARY NUMAN
Cars / Metal
1979 Canada 7” single #45rpm
Happy Saturday, everybody. Hope you have a great weekend.
Having some apple pancakes with a side order of Gary Numan for breakfast today.
One of the most groundbreaking artists ever. The fact that he’s not in the Rock and Roll HOF proves that the Rock and Roll HOF is complete bullshit and meaningless.
He is also wrongly identified as a one hit wonder. His body of work over the past 40 years is breathtaking.

DAVID BOWIE
Space Oddity / Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud
1969 UK MONO 7” single. #45rpm
The absolute CROWN JEWEL find from my #45s dig today. This single sounds amazing, and it’s in IMMACULATE shape.

NEAL HEFTI / TOM GLAZER
Batman Theme / Superman Song
1966 Canada 7” pressing #45rpm
I’m 99% certain I got sunstroke today. It’s hot as hell outside & feel like The Elephant Man.
I battled through to dig through a ton more #45s today for about an hour, & found another 20 or so gems.
This is for sentimental purposes, and the 8 year old version of myself, the lover of the #batman tv show from ‘66. This cover is different than the U.S., but it’s the same record.

JODIE FOSTER
When I Looked At Your Face/La Vie C'Est Chouette
1977 France 7” single
Ladies and gentlemen, file THIS one under:
WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK?!??
Found inside a huge bin of unpriced singles, I did a double take when I saw it.
I guess Foster would have been around 15 when this came out?
She attended a French language Prep school, so I guess it makes sense?
From a child prostitute in Taxi Driver to…
Just a weird thing to randomly find in a crate of singles.

ALLEY BRAT
Singing In The Rain / We Are The Future
1980 U.S. 7” single 45rpm
One of several cool 7” single finds from today, this one being my favorite one.
A prime slice of glammy hard rock.
I mean… look at these four. They’re clearly not fucking around.
Two really great fun songs from a clearly better time.

@markwyner I never had #78rpm #vinyl and didn't even know that this exists 🤷🏻♂️ One of my luckiest "mistakes" has been listening to #slayer #45rpm "Hell Awaits" with the "wrong" speed #33rpm. Damn, this Tom Araya still was singing so fast I couldn't unterstand and follow him 🤘🏻🤣
Just as this guy on YouTube does 20 years later:
