I have learned that Triskell Interactive (Pharaoh a New Era, Lethis Path of Progress) has a four-day week of 32 hours paid as 35.

If you want to recruit seniors, just do this. Seniors want time and money, not low-paid stressful full-time with free fruit baskets.

Two more weeks until “do what you want Wednesdays” start though. Very excited at the prospect of having time for “stuff”

I was at Skansen today, and in their recreation of an old-timey industrial workshop they had this banner from the first May 1st demonstrations, in 1890.

Workers in the industrialised nations went on strike to demand an 8-hour work day, claiming (rightly) that the increases in productivity gave them the right to more free time.

Over a century later, it's about time that we raise the bar. It's time for a .

“A rightwing lobby group that doesn’t declare its donors is spearheading a campaign to undermine the spread of the four-day week in the UK.

The TaxPayers’ Alliance (TPA) has emerged as a key influence behind ministerial attempts in the last week to try to shut down the first public sector trial of compressed working hours at South Cambridgeshire district council (SCDC).”

Let’s push things forward. ⏩

Round 1 of our Rollout Programme was a huge success, so we’re going to keep things rolling.

Today we’re officially launching Round 2. 🚀

Over the coming months we’ll help even more organisations make a successful switch to a four-day week.

We offer a range of workshops, troubleshooting opportunities and ‘Best Practice’ events where you can learn from companies that have already gone through the process.

Do any of you work at an organization with a four day work week? Would you be willing to answer a few questions about how it was implemented, and how it’s working for you?
I’m developing a pilot for my team.

A new study finds that a three-day weekend has health benefits compared to a two-day weekend. This is partly do to less sitting, more physical activity, and more sleep. See neat-news.com/2023/04/106.php.

The recent discussion about adopting a 4 day working week rests on the idea that workers are capable of doing their current output in 4 days, instead of the current standard 5 days.

I'm confidently guessing that corporate/commercial Australia's response will *not* be: "Sure, take a day off and I'll keep paying you the same".

Rather, employers will be outraged that workers are currently ripping them off by not being 20% more productive, as they clearly have that capacity (and may use this as an argument against future pay and conditions claims).

@johnquiggin I am very much in favour. But there's a version I've seen argued that workers will be more productive per hour, and easily do the same amount of work in 4 days. This may be true of some intellectual labour, as you can only push your brain so hard, staying back late doesn't always show extra results. But many more menial/manual jobs can't be rationalised like that. Deliveries, call centres, construction etc just take the time that they take. For casual workers, a could mean getting their hours cut while being worked harder. I think a call for a shorter work week needs some qualification, eg no loss in net pay, no speed-ups.

Re: the . I am in favor of it but be very careful if companies start really pushing this especially in the states.

Your eligibility for full time status and full time benefits are tied to the amount of hours you work and depending on the state its over 32.

They may push for 4 8's rather than 4 10's to reclassify you and cut your benefits to save a buck

Have any Ruby/software adjacent businesses made the switch to a permanent? I'd be interested in doing this personally but I don't know how to "signal" my business hours to customers and users.

4-day workweek lowers and improves , & profits.

“Having an extra day on the weekend is life-changing,” an employee told me.

“In addition to benefiting us each individually, the four-day workweek has also paid off for the company as a whole, through productivity gains that have resulted from staff finding smarter ways to work,” a company says.

Oh, and it's also good for the .

So why isn't everyone doing it?
