"As it turned out Bruno Latour was strongly supportive of our approach: the development of interdisciplinary methods of inquiry, which combine social science with art and design, became one of his principal occupations in the decades that followed."

All of my #acadmic conferences this year are international. #fPET is at TU Delft, #4S is in Hawaii (technically in the states, but still 9 hours of flight time), and #SPT is in Tokyo. None of them have remote options. With the current attitude toward Covid being *shrugemoji*, and the climate ramifications of that kind of travel (and Native Hawaiians begging people to stop visiting)... I simply cannot bring myself to do it. It's a bummer, though.
Just got back from #4S, sort of rusty travelling but really enjoyed the conference especially to hear so much Spanish and attempts at better international connections. Had me very hopeful!
Had a privilege to be part of an exceptional panel and present my work with ethnic minority women cyclists. Thought provoking papers and the discussion regarding the tension between need for visibility and the protection of invisibility made it memorable and influential experience for the presenters and audience alike @kanarinka @kim #4s
heading out to my first academic (international) conference next week for #4S. I’ve only been to industry conferences and assume they’re not quite the same. 😂 curious about what to expect. Any tips and advice???
@cakeisnotalie I like seeing this spelled out neatly.
At the end of the day I also want to spend the bulk of my time with #4s as well. I'd like to think more than a few of us are trying to figure out what #4 means. But it could also be that some of us are secretly #3s without really acknowledging it. Idk. I didn't get a lot of sleep today.
I feel intuitively like there's a scale of dissociation, somewhere upon which the following items would appear (in order of increasing severity):
1. running a script (at least you're making decisions, even if you're bound to a set of rules
2. reading a script (at least you saw the words before you had to say them)
3. looking at a log file of what you did (at least you remember it)
4. no memory
IOW, yours was rather more severe than mine, a few isolated #4s aside.
