My 13x great grand uncle was most likely John Philpot (c.1515-1555). Burned at the stake during reign of Queen Mary I for his Protestant beliefs, Smithfield, 18 Dec 1555. An Archdeacon of Winchester from Compton, Hampshire.
Having worked in PR, I've often had to reflect on what is 'news'. While other ancestors made the papers, Philpot's story felt bigger & was captured in writings, etchings & woodcuts for posterity. #genealogy

Two members of my family were involved in the horse-maiming case known as the Great Wyrley Outrages: Hollis Morgan, who was arrested on suspicion of the crimes a year after Edalji’s release and later married into my family, and William Stokes, my 2nd great grandfather, who was the policeman who arrested him.

The only reference I can find in my family tree to a birthday celebration is this rather unfortunate story from 1898 where Tom John was injured at a fairground on his birthday. It's interesting to read about the fairground - and also that in 1898 people apparently said "birthday anniversary" rather than just "birthday".
