Watching last nightโs #RetroElectroWorkshop from Yesterday channel, and just heard that the #Commodore64 was one of the first #computers to have #cartridges for games. Erm โฆ. no. Also the voiceover man keeps saying #gameConsole for the #Speccy and #C64 being worked on. And breathe โฆ #Spectrum #ZXSpectrum #RetroComputing #80sComputing

Bought myself a couple of old issues of Pixel Addict Magazine. Still sorting through my stuff and rediscovered this: a 32k daughter board for a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 16k (Issue 1). I doubt the chips still work! ๐

Microsoft's Xenix, with its DOS compatibility, was the most popular UNIX at the time, until the company shifted to OS/2 then NT. It sold Xenix to SCO, a long-standing partner, with whom Microsoft had ported Xenix to the Lisa. Microsoft ran email servers on Xenix until ~1995.

I love flipping through these old 80s computing magazines. Back then computers were a hybrid nerd DIY hobby / office professional thing, and not some kind of vehicle for media juggernauts. It's fascinating to see how the values have shifted since then.

I love Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?. Each time I resurrect some old Apple or Commodore computer, the first thing I do is install WITWICS. I've spent hundreds of hours playing it.

Bought myself an extremely scarce book about making music on the Commodore 64. I donโt intend to start coding SID tunes etc, but as a lifelong musician and someone who adored my Commodore 64 computer back in the day Iโm fascinated by the process and want to learn more. With the postal strikes the book may well arrive after Christmas. But Iโll get it sometime.
