I believe that #86box is one of the most important #emulators out there.
Being able to preserve basically the entire library of DOS and earlier Windows titles is truly amazing.
I've been playing with #86box https://86box.net/ lately to virutally rebuild the #retro PC I had when I was a kid. Accuracy is outstanding, it can even emulate a GUS ! Having a blast tuning my config.sys to have enough EMS for Scream Tracker 3 😂 but gosh I forgot networking on Windows 3.11 was so painful. #retrogaming #gaming #dos

Looking at information about OS/2 because I’m bored and I wonder if I should try it again one day? Last time it failed to work as it finished the setup but then I couldn’t get past it.
Guess I’ll have to deal with all those floppies though. I could easily review the very first version on my site as it used to just be a CLI

I finally managed to install #ArcaOS on #86box vm/emulator. Just with basic options and no networking card and sound card working, but successfully to see this OS functioning. Now reinstalling to check different options that can enable both sound and network connectivity. Fun with #retro OS perspectives continues.
After a month of various tests and playgrounds with #86box, I must say it’s a perfect solution #MSDOS, Win 3.11 nostalgia up to Pentium MMX 233MHZ, so more than enough. (Diamond 3D 4000 for ideal VESA 2.0). For Windows 9x, it works great with Pentium II and early AGP accelerated cards and games up to 99 and DX7. Clock still close to 200MHz or sound gets clunky. GUS and AWE for sound and VooDoo 1-3 for graphics! I’m amazed how well M1 Pro emulates all this without notice. #retro #retrocomputing

@dosgameclub Any chance to test that development on #86box? It doesn't work very well on guest VMs there. Neither on 386 nor pentium, I've tried both VESA 2.0/3.0 cards and original VGA setups... But I love the idea never the less, thanks to this toot, I just discovered YOU! Cool stuff!
Does anyone know if it's possible to dump a computer's #ROM or whatever with a program? I wanted to try to grab the ROM from the old family #PC but #86box only has BIN or ROM files for the machine ROM. Surely someone in the #RetroGaming area or #RetroComputing area would know

I found something interesting while testing Borland/Turbo Pascal 7 and Turbo Assembler 5.0 in #86Box based virtual machines. Even though it's patched against Runtime Error 200 it handed my machines randomly, also Pentium 66 and slower machines that should not be impacted. I found when I decrease the memory available to 32MB all works stable. 64MB and more definitively problematic. I tweaked memory to 48 maximum to keep the pascal programs working, anything above, crash and hard reboot.
Launching this https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=91938 on YouTube vs. launching it on real CGA computer.. even if this is just PCEM/86box emulation... I just amazed myself once again #demoscene #hornet #cga #8086 and by the way #86box emulates CGA flawlessly with this demo!
