More random Sun hardware for September’s for . This time it’s a Sun Ultra Enterprise 450.

Maybe not as fancy as the Sun Microsystems Sun Blade 2500 I posted before but it’s a box. Who can resist a box?!

It even has wheels! You can sit on and have your work buddy push you around like you’re driving a car 😛

Last night I spent some time building an adapter to connect the C64 6510 CPU to the C16. I burnt a modified KERNAL ROM image from Andy @ hackjunk.com and was surprised to see I still couldn't access my Pi1541.

Silly me naïvely didn't follow the wiring diagrams for the CPU adapter and just sort of wired the external registers with a "near enough is good enough" approach, P0 to P0, P1 to P1 etc. A couple of the registers are actually supposed to be swapped over.

After correcting my mistake, the C16 boots! I've given the case a wash and pulled the keycaps off. The keyboard fully works but it is filthy.

To do:
Clean keycaps and reassemble case
Install diode for cassette motor line
Look into modding to increase RAM to 64k
Clean and repair datasette and joystick

All fixed up! From trash to treasure with this breadbin C64. This has been a most satisfying repair. New RAM and a KERNAL ROM replacement. Keys and case washed.

Another C64 back from the dead! This one arrived to me with a black screen and no indicators from the dead test.

Bad RAM, all but one of the MT brand ICs was dead, then one of my new old stock RAM ICs had a stuck address line. The KERNAL is dead as well so I'll have to make an adaptor for the 27C64 EPROM I put in its place (currently breadboarded). The SID seems to a bit tired too with one of the channels sounding off.

The keyboard is dusty, but all the keys work! The left and right cursor keys were missing their springs for some reason, bit I found some similarly sized ones.

🤔 Can I really just be inventive with an ? I swear the Apple III was notorious for failing that it had serious stability issues, requiring a design overhaul and a recall of the first 14,000 machines produced so I can't be that inventive with a failing machine
