2/2 No matter what your stance on policing, most can agree on the common sense idea that no institution can police itself. It’s laughable to expect that from anyone and get a fair outcome.
I believe these offenders are not ‘bad apples’ but the result of system rot. But even if you disagree, more (independent, empowered) oversight would catch them sooner.

You’re right, Sensible Centrists, let’s set aside that scary #defundthepolice approach for the eminently practical #8CantWait solution.
Wait, what’s that you say?
"Given the implications of policy surrounding police violence can mean the difference between life and death, the implications of using faulty data science and statistical analysis to make claims as large as these are irresponsible and may serve as an out for leaders and politicians looking for alternatives to more transformative demands."

In response to the #8CantWait reformist co-optation of decades of Black feminist abolitionist work, a group of abolitionists has compiled this list of demands. #8ToAbolition

If anyone is interested in some better demands for police than #8cantwait's offerings, some smart folks bought the url https://8cantwait.co/ and it's stuffed with good ideas & resources. Highly recommend.

I've already hit on why #8cantwait bugged so I decided to do some digging just to see what's up. Campaign Zero is a project of We the Protestors which is affiliated with an Obama Task Force on 21st Century Policing. Already I'm laughing.

Okay, I've seen a number of people on social media share this #8cantwait campaign. I wanted to put my thoughts (and those of others) together to explain why this campaign is a bad idea.
I want to first start by addressing each of the 8 policies.
(Bear with me, thread follows)

Some thoughts on #8cantwait, which is as far as I see the only liberal counter to the far left’s proposal of #DefundThePolice. Let’s talk about why the 72% claim is dubious at best, why these policies would not be effective, and why defunding the police is a better alternative.
Really not sure how effective the #8cantwait thing is. It feels like weak reformism (just make the police a little more responsible), and with a quick glance between their graph of killing per 1M. against the policies there seems to be a lot of outliers.
Data proves that together these eight policies can decrease police violence by 72%.
