I'm not surprised the strangest book in my collection is an Alan Moore book. Or more specifically, Alan Moore's Songbook.

Published in 1998, this strange B&W book collects lyrics for 13 delightfully twisted original songs such as "The Hair of the Snake that Bit Me".

I found it in a dusty box, forgotten in the corner of a comic shop. I haven't seen another copy since.

✅ It feels like we've seen this story before, but never mind. Because this works. It's non-stop action, and it's exciting, and the father-son aspect lifts it up. It ends with the big reveal they have been building to. Now, what comes next?

Interesting idea for a story arc.

1️⃣ "That makes you no better than a junkie!"

2️⃣ SW battles Spectra to get the stolen diamond back, but he wants it for himself. He needs it, in fact. Something which gives the comic an interesting dynamic. The parallels with drug addiction aren't subtle, but they work really well.

It's pretty funny. And whether you agree with him or not, you have to admire the clever way he makes his point.

6️⃣ Sometimes, with his scripts, Byrne tries my patience. But not when he delivers smart issues like this. He's clearly passionate about this topic. And his ability to morph styles is impressive. The pin-up are undeniably classy, as well as erotic. Which, of course, is the point he's making.

3️⃣ In other news, Kylun leaves the team for a while to go home to his family (who probably believe him to be dead). And #Psylocke and #CaptainBritain have a well-written reunion/conversation. Often, words get in the way of a good fight sequence. Or training sequence, in this case. But Davis knows how to narrate action and improve it.

2️⃣ 6 pages are wasted on a boring training exercise. The rest is by-the-numbers action. Bland, inoffensive. Having an unpleasant protagonist is something fresh, but the script lays it on a big too thick.
