Back in 93 The Prodigy came to Norway, I couldn't believe it ! It was so surreal, it wasn't until I saw Liam standing by the merch stand that it actually dawned on me. Nobody recognized him. In Norway they were nobody. The gig was in a gymnastics hall & it was so steaming hot that the curtains shrunk 15cm. Keith bit my thumb. My first proper mixer KAM GM50 with, wait for it..4 SECOND SAMPLER ! I got it in 93 & when I hooked it up it made a sawtooth type noise. A light bulb went off in my head ! I can use that for my sets. When one record was on I'd pull the plug of the other out & in then use it to accompany the music. I experimented a lot with the mixer & used it for all it was worth. A little time capsule - My almanac from 1996, exactly as I left it back in the day. Trainspotting cinema ticket. Cover of a Ortofon pick-up - it was mighty expensive ! 575,- NOK in 96 ! A little note on Friday saying: "Totally parent free!". Artist pass & poster from rave I played that summer. I remember it was a huge warehouse & the DJ booth was like 15 meters over the crowd. Back in 1995 I was smart enough to take a picture of my room.
My decks are placed on stacked magazines. Walls covered in flyers & posters - spot Tank Girl. The huge orange plastic thing to the left is my record bag. Plastikman sticker on the record crate. And smileys painted on my headphones. Empty Pepsi bottle on the floor. DJ magazines under the table. Xmas lights & goodness knows what in the ceiling. Home alone rave in 1995. When my parents was away I would put on raves at home for my friends, set up my gear in the living room, decorate the house with blacklight, silver foil, red xmas lights etc. When the party really took off I’d do nutty mash-ups of everything from my moms 60s records to boyband stuff gone minimal techno.
