Today in LGBTQ May 27, 2020: Author and LGBTQ rights activist, Larry Kramer, died. He wrote the screenplay for the film Women in Love, (1969) and a novel called Faggots (1978), which was denounced within the gay community for its portrayal of shallow, promiscuous sex in the 1970s. However, he is probably most remembered for founding the Gay Men’s Health Crisis (1980), which became the world’s largest private organization assisting people with AIDS. And then cofounding the AIDS activist organization ACT UP (1987).

Window Seat Life (as my friend calls it). Brought out the over the ear headphones, and I forgot how good they are at removing noise. The in ear ones I've been using lately are pretty good, but these are better.

The downside is that they do get warm and uncomfortable on my ears after a while. Can wear the other ones longer.

My shirt says "Silencio = Muerte", a Spanish version of the #ActUp #SilenceEqualsDeath campaign from the 80s (and still very much alive today)

On #WorldAIDSDay I hear few people acknowledge that AIDS now disproportionately affects Black people. What I don't hear stated explicitly, though, is that the blame for that disparity lies squarely on the lack of affordable quality health care, not on any particular group's lifestyle or behavior. We live in a time when treatment, including preventative treatment, is effective and available to those who can afford it. AIDS doesn't discriminate, but our health care system does. #ACTUP #FightRacism

Now seems as good a day as any to start reading this 700+ page book. I once attended an Act Up NYC meeting, I’ve marched with them and one of my friends was interviewed for this book. I think it’s going to be a challenging read to be honest but without their activism (and others) I firmly believe that treatments would have taken longer to be discovered despite the ongoing financial profits those treatments promised. Nicht ganz so spektakulär, wie #Stonewall, & deutlich weißer, trotzdem - ein Anfang ist ein Anfang, & Bewegungen bewegen sich immer im Fahrwasser anderer Bewegungen.

Die Verbindungen zwischen queerer Bewegungen & #Klimagerechtigkeit laufen übrigens stark über #ACTUP & anti-AIDS-Aktivismus.
