If you thought election mode lasted an age for #AE22...
Suggestion now of late Feb 2023 for a new Northern Ireland Assembly #election.
Reasons outlined here for this are to give space for UK-EU talks on the #Protocol, and an aim to avoid reaching 25th anniversary of the #GFA without functioning institutions

Sinn Féin has won the election in the north of Ireland.
We have made history.
An Irish Republican Party will now lead us into this next historic phase for our people. #AE22 #RealChange

It will be very interesting to see what ends up changing out of this. The government of NI works via what is basically a forced coalition. SF will pick a First Minister while the DUP gets a Deputy First Minister. Among other things.
We will see what happens!

It’s weird getting all the wall-to-wall election coverage here for #AE22 as the count rumbles on, knowing that the chances of a functioning executive at the end of it are pretty slim. Still, it’s cool to have been able to vote using STV and know that my vote will count even though my first preference looks unlikely to get a seat.

"Sinn Féin seemed on course to match or exceed the 27 seats it won then, overtaking the DUP which appeared on course to lose several of its 28 seats, said Nicholas Whyte, a psephologist and expert on Northern Ireland elections." #AE22 https://twitter.com/nwbrux/status/1522611781193064449

Election Fact #AE22
The last time an IRSP member from Belfast was elected he couldn’t take his seat due to being on the run for a bank robbery.
While methods have changed, we still intend to take money from the banks.
