USA: Der indigene Gefangene Leonard #Peltier ist nun seit 47 Jahren in Haft

Der 78jährige indigene Gefangene Leonard Peltier, ein Aktivist des American Indian Movement (AIM), ist seit dem 6. Februar 1976, also seit 47 Jahren in den USA inhaftiert. Damit zählt der zu »zweimal lebenslänglich« Verurteilte zu den bekanntesten und mit am längsten inhaftierten politischen Gefangenen der Welt. Seit 1977 hat keiner der seitherigen US-Präsidenten den »Nelson Mandela der Indigenen Völker« begnadigt – sei es aus Überzeugung oder wegen fehlender Courage. Aufgrund weltweiter Solidarität wächst derzeit allerdings der Druck auf Präsident Joseph Biden. Dabei gäbe es gleich mehrere Gründe für eine solche Entscheidung: sein Alter und seinen Gesundheitszustand, seine Einstufung als vorbildlicher Häftling und nicht zuletzt die mehr als berechtigten Zweifel an seiner Schuld und der Rechtmäßigkeit seiner Verurteilung und Inhaftierung.

Despite taking typing classes in grade school, I mostly learned how to type using #AIM. Anyone else miss the days of AIM?

Joining the #Mastodon #Fediverse reminds me a lot of my prior experiences 1. dabbling in #linux & #oss, and 2. exploring the early social web (#BBS, #geocities, #ICQ, #AIM, #blogger) circa late 1990

Roll your own ethos, lots of effort to get in, things don’t just work, pioneer mentality, lots of #hackers and #tinkerers and #hobbyists, small but passionate #community seeking connection.

Maybe won’t have mass appeal but perhaps that’s not the goal?

I tried to upload this picture a few hours ago to no avail. Don't know if it will work, this took an hour, but the image shows #USAF Airman Leata Kisena as she checks an #AIM-9 missile during a weapons load crew competition at #EglinAFB (US Air Force Base), Fla., Oct. 28, 2022. I believe she is working in front of an #F35A, but then again, I could be wrong...

Yeah I think without a smartphone I would probably not be able to really stay in contact with most people except through phone or email or something like #AOL #AIM. And I completely forgot about newspapers, my parents subscribed me to #WorldMagazine and #WSJ before I was allowed to have a phone and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm sure without a phone I would still enjoy those publications.
