One of the things I became aware of in was how can be such a useful tool to monitor emergence and activity of infections in the community.

Great article on this πŸ‘‡

Linezolid probably a bit safer than we think & probably can give >4 weeks with close observation.

Great drug, it's oral, but still makes me a bit apprehensive about using it for a long course, certainly at 600mg BD.

This is intriguing: phage therapy induces bacterial resistance but also reduced virulence.

So clinical benefit post-phage could also stem from bacterial attenuation rather than just eradication.

Question is how sustainable this effect may be.

"Overall, our study suggests that the ongoing selective pressures exerted on parasite populations in Ethiopia by HRP2-based RDT diagnosis and ACT treatment might result in co-occurrence of diagnostic and drug resistance, representing a double threat to elimination."

"Resistance selection in Uganda may also have been furthered by the use of monotherapy, with the artemisinin component unprotected by a long-acting partner drug. The use of artemisinin monotherapy to treat uncomplicated malaria has been discouraged, but the practice persists."

"We sought evidence of this success, but unfortunately, publicly available information of either robust trackers or clearly delineated progress being assessed against the stated aims of the scheme remains sparse. Public communications are vague about exactly how the subscription model was successful other than the money having been spent."
