Full readings from my time at the PCP this week. Not good - especially in a known COVID surge in MA - better ventilation, HEPA (merv 13) filters, and masking would go miles in protecting your staff and patients from acquired illness at your facilities.

**Outdoors, CO2 levels are 400-475 ppm. Above 800 ppm, at least 1% of your air is “shared” - meaning you're breathing in exhaled air. CO2 levels above 1,000 ppm is a sign there are elevated risks of potential virus transmission for everyone in the room. Spaces with multiple occupants should aim for 600 ppm to prevent cross-infection.

Took the cats to the vet today. The staff were super nice and didn't rush even though they were short staffed (many staff were out with COVID). Levels were high in the waiting area and exam rooms, but cracking a window in the exam room brought things back down quickly. Masking and cracking the windows are great ways to lower transmission risk.

We do have #MERV13 filters in the HVAC system, and when there are only a few people in the building (eg during a PTO building) the #CO2 levels are actually really good - in the 500-700 range! But when I sent the #Aranet in with my kids, CO2 in their classrooms built up throughout the day, maxing out around 1600ppm in one kid's class and over 2000 in the other.

I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at my doctor's office today to see all of these signs on the way in... less thrilled to see that my provider's office wasn't following suit. Staff was unmasked, as was the other patient in the waiting room.

Ventilation was pretty good at the Griffin Theater and it didn’t exceed 800 ppm I think. But lots of people were coughing and sneezing. Much less than half of the audience wore masks. They said although masks were not mandatory, they were encouraged.

There was at least 1 coughing person within 10 feet on two of the trains I took this morning. 1705 on the D and 681 in the 34 St station.And yes, I’m still masking everywhere.

There’s this running joke about guys’ obsessions with cross-ventilation and I just realized there’s no better tool to put one’s skills to the test than a CO2 monitor. It’s not just a useful device for Covid related safety of course, it’s also good for measuring general air freshness at home.

Sure, there’s the summer cooling cross-ventilation challenge… but guess what, it’s a winter sport too when you’re cooking in the kitchen.

Very high CO2 reading on a very crowded C train yesterday at 3700 ppm. It might’ve even been the highest I recorded on the #Aranet, even higher than at the 911 museum at 2157 ppm which was also crowded.
