Personally I just tend to install @ubuntu / #UbuntuLTS on most systems as it's a #64bit distro (#RaspberryPiOS is only available for #ARM, #ARM64 & #i386) and comes with support for basically everything anyone ever asked for - including #Steam.
@bunsenlabs is my go-to distro to use on #lowend systems.

One of the things I appreciate in the M series MacBooks, is the fact that the battery lasts literally forever. It really frees you in terms on working locations. I can sit on a beach, without an electric outlet, and work, as long as I have Wi-Fi.

@trashheap Fact is that @Raspberry_Pi didn't create a de-facto monopoly in #ARM #SBC's because they are particulary good in terms of performance or price, but because they nailed #documentation.

That takes time and effort and cheap copycats that just vomit out some SBCs and some images to boot from won't be able to compete.

It's an abusing forensic lights kinda day.

Although with those freckles, I probably sunburned myself in the 10 seconds it took to get that photo.

Tho I'd not be surprised if they then get the #SCO treatment if they were to contribute to RISC-V's development...

There's a reason #Transmeta literally did design their chips to emulate #amd64 & #ix86 with an architecture that isn't an #ISA a OS can even directly utilize.

That being said, I'm confident that #ARM / #ARM64 will be a stepping stone till #RISCV is mature enough to become mainstream (i.e. 20 Years) and cheap $10 #FPGAs allow running one at a performance that is on-par to then current #AppleSilicon SoCs and faster than any current-day #AMD64 can be.

The dev machine is operational! #OmniOS on OCI AMD processor, delightfully boring. I still want to come back to spinning up an #OpenIndiana instance as a real workstation, but this works enough to get a build running.
Once I have it kicked off, I’ll start adding basic repeatability scripting, asset uploading, etc. eg continuous integration like it’s 1999.
Also, I’m going to start using #IllumosOnArm just so I can find my messages later.

The “desktop” offerings for the #ARM 8-core #Rockchip RK3588 are impressive! It may not be the Ampere Altra dev kit, but quite a step up from the #RaspberryPi 4. I’ve got to get more momentum with #illumos so I can justify one of these as dev kit.

I guess learning about #arm systems just means you are bound to memorize a bunch of SoC model numbers. RK3588, BCM2711, QCS610, TDA4VM… and comparing capabilities is even more exciting.
