I rushed to say #TokyoVice was a more watchable series than #ASpyAmongFriends based on watching part I of each. But the graphs gradually overlapped: the more you watch Tokyo, the more it becomes less; the more you watch A Spy the better it becomes.

The problem largely stems from Philby being too familiar. Having read so much over the years about him, even about Harry St. John Philby, his father, you feel another Philby documentary or drama will be dull. This builds slowly but isn't.

A Spy Among Friends ITVX is brilliant & right up my street. 😊
Some great acting, as expected, by Damian Lewis, Anna Maxwell Martin & Guy Pearce.
You need to watch carefully to figure out who is following/listening in on who in the plot twists.

Three episodes of #ASpyAmongFriends and I'm only just awake. Not sure if I'll watch the rest.

I’ve taken advantage of a cold and frosty weekend to binge A Spy Among Friends on the new ITVX. I’m a fan of Cold War spy dramas and love Ben Macintyre’s books. It’s a OK adaptation with a stellar cast though not a patch on the book which is able to explore the themes of friendship and betrayal much more effectively.
