I can’t comment on ATAGI’s medical expertise but I can laud their political skills. Waiting to see if Australians start dying in large numbers again before making the bivalent vaccine available to the general population is cynical and irresponsible. @inthehands @HandPie @jupitersigh Australia similarly stupid, and now all the hospitals are full again. ATAGI dragging heels yet again to authorise vax that would have mitigated this at least partly, or possibly completely if they'd backed a different horse.

I've read a ton, and I'm putting my bets on Nuvaxovid now. I'm borderline immunocompromised so was able to get my 5th shot a few weeks back (2nd Novavax).

It's looking like protein subunit vaccines just work better for this kind of disease, look at Cuba. 3rd worst death rate in the world during their worst wave pre-vax, but they vaxxed everyone with their own protein subunit vaccines from age 2 upwards and they haven't had a covid death since August 22nd.

note, it's possible #ATAGI will only approve a 5th for the mRNA bivalent when they do, but it's clear that #Novavax is more likely to be more effective against new variants, and wane slower.

Getting my second #Novavax shot today: as long as they don't turn me away! My GP (who doesn't do covid vaxx) said that wasn't likely, but I felt similarly when I went to get my first one.

I've followed enough GP's on social media who have read the studies coming out as well as seeing first-hand some of the PAS, and who support getting a whole new series of Novavax regardless of previous vaccine history, as they have authorised in Israel and possibly other countries by now.

And even yesterday I heard on the radio that #ATAGI are considering advising a 5th dose generally, not just for immunocompromised. Which they will authorise too late for the current rising wave, of course.
