Add to the list of historic “What the Fuck?”Abolitionist Gerrit Smith who helped fund John Brown’s raid on Harper’s Ferry helped bond out president of the confederacy Jefferson Davis out of prison after the Civil War. Like whoa. You can read his rationale and thinking. In light of the failure of reconstruction and the violence of racist redemption it’s a truly enlightening document that sheds light into post-civil war thinking about reconciliation. I would love a primary source analysis from a historian that can fully contextualize this piece. Add this one to the #Abolitionist #WishfulThinking pile. Simple narratives just don’t suffice.

“Our duty to the slave, I think, demands that we speedily appeal to the task master’s fear. Let us teach, urge, and encourage insurrections, and the South will soon abandon her haughty attitude of aggression…if we want to make good terms with Slave Power, let us bring it on its knees first! And there is but one way of doing that: by attacking it, where it is weakest—at home. The slave quarter is the Achilles’ heel of the South. Wound it there and it dies! One insurrection in Virginia, in 1832, did more for the emancipation cause, then all the teachings of the Revolutionary Fathers…I dismiss the argument that we have no right to encourage insurrections, the dreadful punishment of which, if unsuccessful, we are unwilling or do not propose to share, by replying that I am not unprepared to hazard the dangers of such a catastrophe, and the chances of speedy death or enduring victory with the revolutionary slaves.”

"After learning about the strike, members of BAPSOP and our friends went out to the jail in the evening. We had quickly made a banner that read “solidarity with hunger strikers” and made signs on bristol board spelling out the key demands. Our goal was to both show support to the guys striking and also to communicate about the strike to ranges that were not yet participating."

Circulating Wealth among the people!
It is possible for currency to circulate from Mutual Aid to a Food Cooperative, to a Community Garden, to a Community Land trust, and back to Mutual Aid. This kind of circular flow of currency is an example of how wealth can be circulated within a solidarity economy.
In this scenario, individuals or groups can donate to the Mutual Aid organization, which then uses the funds to support the Food Cooperative. The Food Cooperative can then use some of its earnings to purchase food from the Community Garden. The Community Garden, in turn, can use some of its earnings to support the Community Land Trust by leasing or purchasing land. The Community Land Trust can then use some of its earnings to support the Mutual Aid organization.
By creating these interdependent relationships between organizations within the solidarity economy, wealth can be circulated and redistributed within the community, promoting economic resilience and sustainability.

One of my photographs as a PSA to promote the National Council For Incarcerated & Formerly Incarcerated Women & Girls' #FreeHer campaign.
The National Council was founded in 2010 by a group of women incarcerated in federal prison in Danbury, CT. Many of us are mothers, the organization works to end the criminal legal system's forced separation of women and girls from their communities and loved ones through hyper-local organizing, public awareness education, movement lawyering, and the national #FreeHer Campaign. The National Council also organizes against the incarceration of women globally through its International Network.
Our mission was and still is, to end the incarceration of women and girls.

Great reportback and critique describing the atmosphere of threats to militants coming from #Oakland, CA
Critiquing reformist counter insurgency, co-optation, and peace policing in the local "#Abolitionist" movement.

It's likely that there are abolitionists organizing near you! Go forth and find them, join them, learn together, fight together. Let your anger, your sorrow, your fear inspire action, inspire connection.
This work has been ongoing for ages, and continues in times when mainstream attention is hyper-focued (another police murder), and times when the popular discourse has moved on (or been buried / de-fanged / co-opted).
This work, in all its million manifestations, in all its million local projects, is a long struggle. But also, the time to join is urgently, unequivocally, now!

"A gaggle of prison abolitionists gathered on New Year’s Eve to lift the spirits of community members held captive inside the draconian Cook County Jail, the second largest county jail in this whole damn incarceration nation.
People blasted music from speakers and banged makeshift instruments, shooting off fireworks, marching around the entire jail making sure all divisions saw some love, holding up signs and banners like Fuck Cop City and Pretrial Fairness Now."

Have you all connected with any #Abolitionist organizers? There's often (though not always of course) alignment on theory / praxis with #anarchism.
In that realm, 1 Million Experiments has a listing of projects, some of which might fit into what you're looking for:

Death Panel Podcast: Beatrice speaks with Dan Berger about how mass incarceration has driven the spread of the pandemic, how prisons and other carceral sites have used covid as an excuse to grow more punitive, and why we need to renew calls from early in the pandemic to “free them all for public health.”"
"Both the private health care and the privatization of communication were trends that had existed before covid, but were accelerated during the pandemic." ~ Dan Berger
"The connections across all these things, are undermining [our] capacities for collectivity while expanding the privatized options. What the carceral system is there to do is to be the punitive arm of capitalist individualism. The calls or even plans to build more prisons, more jails, more detention centers, and to hire more cops are inseparable from the move away from a collective care approach to COVID19 or anything else." ~ Dan Berger

Help! Where are the #ECE and #Preschooler teachers or caregivers on this site? Any #Abolitionist teachers out there? Anyone from #QueeniesCrew ? I’m new here and want to find my people

i'm kieran cutting, and i'm a #designer, #facilitator and #researcher. i co-run fractals #coop with three other fantastic designers, facilitators and researchers. we work with organisations trying to make social change and help them get unstuck with a bunch of different tools.
i'm an #IndiePublisher, and I co-run EXIT Press with my good friend kitson. we publish the bizarre, the fascinating, the #ghostly, and the terrifyingly #nostalgic. we're interested in the #hauntological, the lost, and finding a fucking exit. we publish LOST FUTURES, a zine about worlds that could have been, should have been, or weren't. we have a small but loyal following, and are publishing some more interesting new work over the next year.
i'm always missing long-form personal writing (livejournal is the 'social media' that i miss the most), and i'm excited that mastodon lets you just... keep writing.
i'm an #abolitionist, and i care about building a more caring world. i'm constantly looking for more tools to help people engage in communities of care more easily, and to help people address violence in all of its many forms.
i'm at the tail end of a phd that got slightly waylaid because my dad died in september. i'm a reluctant 'technologist' (? idk, i build websites), but mostly i just love eating interesting food, spending time with my friends, drinking good coffee (and beer, and wine), and playing #dnd as my lovely lil traumatised warlock Inara.
who are you? (even if I've known you for years, I want to know who you are now! feel free to reply or just link your own introduction post below)

Hullo Mastodon! I'm new here since everyone seems to be evacuating the dumpster fire that is twitter.
I'm Rebecca, rabbits are the centre of my universe! Rescue and activism are hugely important to me, as a #vegan #abolitionist I fight for the goal of total animal liberation. I'm a hedgewitch, forager, lover of nature, gamer, music fan, and an #engineer by trade. I'm keen to meet like minded individuals who share my values, and people who are interested in learning more about #veganism 💚
Here's Frankie so this isn't all just words 😂

I guess I should finally do an #introduction since I plan to be here more often.
My name is jae (no capital j please!). I'm #agender, #queer af, and I use they/it pronouns. I am #disabled, #autistic and have #agoraphobia and #adhd. Living in so-called #canada with my partner, eight #cats and a big loveable goofy #doggo. I'm an #anarchist and #abolitionist.
Since I'm mostly homebound I spend a lot of time growing #weed and other #plants using #hydroponics. I also lurk around online right-wing spaces #researching and gathering info. Though I'll be the first admit I'm not the best at that but I do what I can from where I am.
I'm just going to list some hashtags of interests now since my brain is running out of things to say about me...
