This #Microfiction piece was intended specifically for #AceWeek.

A piece of advice to anyone who is full of qualms about describing themselves as ace/demisexual/gray-asexual/etc.: Don’t try to gauge quantities and don’t overthink definitions.

Yes, the definition of #asexuality says “little to no sexual attraction”, but you are not sure if yours is “little enough”. Yes, the definition of demisexuality mentions “close emotional bonds”, but you don’t know if yours have been “close enough”. It doesn’t matter. They are vague on purpose.

What matters is whether you feel like they suit you. If you like them, then you can use them. That’s the litmus test, as simple as that.

I'm Sage Sharp, and I'm #asexual. I didn't know I was asexual (ace) for a long time. I had a lot of misconceptions about what being ace meant.

I didn't know that sexuality exists on a spectrum from asexual, demi-sexual, to allosexual. For a while, I thought I was demi-sexual, but after a while I decided I was just ace.

Das also meine Betroffenengedanken zur #Aceweek. Solange der Begriff so benutzt wird, wie es momentan der Fall ist, kann ich das Ganze nicht ernst nehmen. Und das als jemand, der sich in den meisten Definitionen, die dazu kursieren, wiederfindet - solange die ganzen "Abers" weggelassen werden.
