@z428 @indieblog i agree just finished reading, has lots of good points but also misses the ongoing efforts to provide single user options.. it doesn't need to be #mastodon and probably won't be and that's the beauty of it, compared to 2016 or even 2020 there are much devs working on the field of #activitypub, I think the #fediverse hasn't said its last word, far from it. it's a mistake to only see the Mastodon in the room, just take @manton micro.blog it's a demo it can be done differently ๐

Time to disconnect from X, the site formerly known as Twitter
By @jackyan
"Not only do we get more and better engagement on Mastodon with a fraction of the followers, we can actually be social on social media, which I thought was the point."

I've been hearing people talk about #jsonld a lot, so I finally Googled it. I must be missing something because I don't see the point. Best I can tell it's just data with links to schema.org to tell you what type of data it is. It's just a less powerful Swagger doc? #webDev #activityPub
Just this morning I was thinking about the possibility of a Mastodon-like decentralised network of git servers (or instances).
So what are the chances I stumble across this thread: https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-org/-/epics/11247
I really hope this happens, and so much more!
The ability of spinning up your own GitLab server is so powerful on its own, but imagine being able to contribute to repos on other servers with your account that lives on your own server!

I finally installed the ActivityPub plugin on my blog, but I haven't had time to read much about it with everything that happened this year.
Is there a way to turn it into your primary fediverse handle? Or is it just to share blog posts? Sort of like an RSS feed?
The #GNOME community is thinking of sunsetting wiki.gnome.org
One blocker is that we don't have another tool for small events and registrations.
Any suggestion?

Bonus points for #Fediverse / #ActivityPub support.

very interesting : I see a group of teens playing a custom made #ttrpg using a blog for big texts and images, and replying with email for the interactions ... a completely made up system of their own ... wondering if it could not be streamlined with a wordpress + #ActivityPub client ๐ค
@lamp @dangillmor @renchap #ActivityPub :activitypub: as a standard is open to implementation, so it depends on how they do it.
Some do, some don't.
IMHO it just won't fix problems...

Normie in the 90s: "email is too complicated! I have to pick a hosting provider, but there are so many to choose from; yahoo, lycos, hotmail. Why can't it just be simple like the post office!?"

@linus @manlycoffee yeah, there's a lot of silly dogmatism here
What I'd *really* love to see is a #Web3 hosted #ActivityPub instance; maybe on #internetComputer maybe #fleekNetwork
That'd make people's hair catch fire! ๐

@manlycoffee what hosting architecture are you targeting?
I think there's a need for an #AWSLambda hosted #serverless #ActivityPub instance.
#AWS can handle the kind of peaky scale that happens whenever the #fediverse sees sudden influxes of users.

Various cool, small #ActivityPub projects here in @dansup replies, including a Tumblr -like blog host server that publishes to AP.
WordPress.com owner Automattic acquires an ActivityPub plug-in so blogs can join the Fediverse
>WordPress.com sites now have an easier way to integrate with the Fediverse, including #Mastodon Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, Tumblr and other web publishing tools, is the new owner of the #ActivityPub for #WordPress plug-in and has also recruited its developer to come work for the company, according to #Automattic CEO Matt Mullenweg.

To encourage #decentralization, I'd love to add more :activitypub: [not only :mastodon: ] servers from the :fediverse: to the list that are open for new users to register to:
https://github.com/greyhat-academy/lists.d/blob/main/activitypub.servers.list.tsv
Please feel free to open up an issue [https://github.com/greyhat-academy/lists.d/issues/new ] to add your #ActivityPub instance / #Fediverse - connected service to it or make a pull request with the details for your service to it.
Please feel free to boost and share.

I love the simplicity of Nostr a lot. Bc of that they can build many micro applications on protocol.

Itโs difficult to know what a social media that promoted โauthenticityโ and โautonomyโ would look like. One interesting model is that of Swedish peopleโs parks (Folkets parker) and peopleโs houses (Folkets hus).

Maybe.
#Wordpress has an #ActivityPub plugin which means any blog can now become part of the #Fediverse. That's 4 million potential producers of content. Really exciting.
I'd like there to be some open standard for expressing cause and effect, problems and mitigations, for expressing ideas, pros and cons, basically brainstorming. But this could be added anywhere on the web, and linked to create knowledge to help us all improve.
Wordpress or #Mastodon could have plugins.

@J12t again, Lemmy (and #KBin) expose their subreddits as #ActivityPub Actors. using #Mastodon we can mention @lemmy and it (may) appear as a post in the subreddit.
There's tons of problems with how it works judging from the reaction I get from #Lemmy users when I use the feature.
The fact is that Mastodon provides a microbloging interface. using it to do non-microbloging things is always gonna be weird.

#Meta's #Threads is gonna get search before it joins the #Fediverse so then we'll all switch to it, then they drop #activityPub support https://www.cnbc.com/2023/08/04/metas-threads-to-have-search-and-web-functions-zuckerberg-says-.html
