In my experience, #TheatreKids "run the world" because the performing arts teach #leadership and self-initiative. #Theatre in particular, is primarily about communication, both linguistic and nonverbal (design and body language/movement). What high-level profession wouldn't benefit from those skills?

What is #AuditionPay, you ask? Aren't auditions just opportunities or job interviews?

Here's what our current union contract says:

"If the performer is given employment in the picture, he shall not be entitled to compensation for auditions or tests... if the performer is not given employment in the picture, the performer shall receive 1/2 day of pay."

If we were paid to audition as we should be, there would be middle-class actors.

Watching a scene where a tall actor is cast opposite an extremely tall actor, in a conversation where they need to literally & figuratively see eye to eye.

The director has cleverly blocked the shorter actor standing a the base of a staircase, leaning over the bannister. Organic, elegant, does the job.

I'm a short actress who has been cast opposite v. tall me so notice when directors handle this well. 😂

I have used firearms on both stage and screen; without exception, safety considerations were first priority. Everything that happened on the set of #Rust is upsetting to me, and I agree that criminal charges should be pressed against all parties. From the outset, Baldwin has been more concerned about his hide than about #HalynaHutchins and her family. This is a wakeup call for #actors and #producers to know their actions have real consequences.

Anyone who saw Zeffirelli's #RomeoAndJuliet in school knows exactly which scene is in question all these decades later. It's sad but not surprising that in 1968 two teenage #actors were strongarmed into doing a nude scene without their consent. Having been pressured on a number of occasions, well into my 20s, to do nudity "for the sake of the art," I'm glad this suit is happening.

The tax code allowing performing artists to deduct qualified business expenses is outdated and obsolete. The bipartisan Performing Artist Tax Parity Act (PATPA) will make critical, above-the-line business expense tax deductions available to substantially many more actors and artists.

Let Congress know you support PATPA and ask them to urge them to include it in the year-end spending bill.
