Want to Customise Libadwaita? Try ‘Gradience’
Some see the emergence of libadwaita as an intentional roadblock designed to get in the way of end-user customisation — but a new app added to Flathub this week proves otherwise. Gradience is a nimble desktop app written in Python, GTK4, and libadwaita. Using it you can change each and every colour that appears in the libadwaita theme (as well as the adw-gtk3 theme, should you have it installed). We’re talking background app colour, button colour, toggles, switches, radio boxes, and sliders; menus; dialogs; pop-overs; drop-down lists… There’s even an advanced tab where custom CSS code can be applied. It busts :sys_more_orange:

I've created a completely new version of Simple #theme, called Simplewaita. This time I've based the GTK 3 and 4 part on #Adwaita 's code base, so it should be very solid.
Simplewaita is a skeuomorphic theme, that tries to use as little CPU as possible to draw widgets (no gradients, almost no box-shadows or transparencies), while also trying to be extremely legible. It has a very #oldSchool touch to it, too. It's dark and green.

Firefox GNOME Theme Now Follows GTK4/libadwaita Styling
Adwaita stans listen up: that exceptional sweet theme pack you can use to make Firefox look like GNOME Web has been updated. And I don’t mean ‘updated’ in the sense it just supports the latest Firefox 102 release – that’s a given. Rather, the Firefox GNOME theme has been updated to follow GTK4/libadwaita styling. Something I know I’ve been waiting for. It means you can very easily make the latest version of the Firefox web browser looks über integrated and ingratiated on the GNOME 42 desktop (well, those GNOME 42 desktops where the default Adwaita theme is in use). Once :sys_more_orange:

I'm thinking of doing a “tutorial” stream creating a to-do list app in Vala, GTK 4, and libadwaita tomorrow. If anyone is interested, I'll do it in Spanish ('cause I'm not confident enough in my spoken English yet) and share schedules in a while.
I'm still thinking about which platform I'll do it on.
How to Give Firefox an Adwaita Makeover
Do you want a Firefox theme that makes the browser better integrate with the vanilla GNOME desktop? If you do, check out the Firefox GNOME Theme on GitHub. It’s an all-in-one transformation pack that works with modern versions of the browser. When applied it makes Firefox look and feel like a regular GTK app adhering to GNOME’s Adwaita theme. We’re talking the same gradients, colours, and button shapes as Adwaita, and it supports Adwaita’s standard light look as well as it’s dark mode. Compared to the way Firefox under this Adwaita looks normally, this theme offers: Adwaita light & dark :sys_more_orange:

Libadwaita 1.0 Arrives to Kickstart a New Era of GTK App Development
Libadwaita 1.0 has been released, kickstarting a new bold new era for GTK apps. Now, there’s been a fair bit of controversy (and misunderstanding) over what libadwaita is and isn’t. It’s pitched as a library that implements the (new) GNOME HIG. It’s a GTK4-based successor to the GTK3-based libhandy library that has, over the past few years, given GTK apps cool adaptive capabilities. Libadwaita is set to become pretty tightly intwined with GNOME as, in a break with the past, this library comes with a stylesheet —what we think of as GTK themes are actually just stylesheets— baked in. GNOME 42 Will Include New System-Wide ‘Dark Mode’ Preference
GNOME 42 is on course to ship with support for a proper ‘dark mode’ toggle. Right now the GNOME desktop lacks a standardised, system-level way for users to indicate to the system, their apps, and even websites they visit that they’d prefer them to use a dark appearance. Now, you’re probably thinking: “Joey, Ubuntu already has a dark mode: I use it” — and you’re not mistaken. Major desktop Linux distros, including Ubuntu and Pop!_OS, do include a dark theme option — but is changing theme the best way to approach this? No. First off, GTK themes aren’t strictly a :sys_more_orange:

Bored of Flat UIs? Check Out the Skeuos GTK Theme
Ever find yourself wishing your GTK theme had a bit more depth to it? If so, check out the Skeuos GTK theme by Daniel Ruiz de Alegría. His sumptuous skin skewers modern expectations by embracing the bevels, drop-shadows, and gradients most modern themes actively avoid. The result is a confident look with visible visual hierarchy to it. Buttons look like buttons, toggles look like toggles, and focused elements have clear presence. You won’t mistake a label for an action here. In this era of ever-flatter UIs it’s surprising how refreshing a splash of “ornamentation” can feel. Not wanting to leave :sys_more_orange:
