When there is wider availability of electric farm equipment, we're going to see #Agrivoltaics take off even faster too.

Another one of those days where partial shade afforded by #Agrivoltaics proves its worth in the midwest.
I am particularly fond of the adaptation methods that help mitigate the cause of our #GlobalWarming
#DidYouKnow:#Agrivoltaics, agrophotovoltaics, agrisolar, or dual-use solar is the simultaneous use of areas of land for both solar panels and agriculture.
Key features include: clean energy, increased efficiency, climate change-resistant crops, and basically no habitat loss.

Actually most of our #agrivoltaics field experiments in temperate climates has shown a decrease in agricultural productivity, but the economics including energy sales always works out for the farmer as far as I know.
As towards your concerns about earlier practices in carbon offsetting, we've moved beyond those practices in the #ESG community and now require transparent monitoring, reporting, and verification to help address it
Whereas for those of us willing to accept reality, Euro #Solar has a website dedicated to how #agrivoltaics is a good thing for farming communities. https://agrisolareurope.org/
Sorry that I haven’t updated for a while, been on holiday/vacation with family!
Plans for next week:
1. Build a development board for #attiny #microcontroller so I can work on my simple low powered #solar powered switches.
2. Finally wire up my small scale #Agrivoltaics experiment- since harvesting my potatoes a week ago I now have some open space in my garden.

Back in 2017, Carter decided to use 10 acres of land in his hometown in Georgia to create his solar farm. The land which was once occupied by soybean crops and peanuts is now space where 3,852 solar panels are erected.
Jimmy Carter’s legacy and passion for sustainability have never wavered. The 3,852 solar panels on his property can provide 1.3 megawatts on a good day. On average 1 megawatt provides enough energy to power between 400-900 American homes. #agrivoltaics
“Solar panels atop crops has been gaining traction in recent years as incentives & demand for clean energy skyrocket. Researchers look into making the best use of agricultural land, & farmers seek ways to shield their crops from blistering heat, keep in moisture & potentially increase yields.”

The new #agrivoltaics research plot at the University of Illinois has nice tall posts that they put the #solar panels on and in fact can also are single axis rotatable for more power collection and to allow for the tallest equipment to work the fields.
I'm not a fan of the short posts that we see with sheep and such too much, but the cost of installation is probably lower I reckon. https://scapes.illinois.edu/
New techniques that combine adaptation along with mitigation are win/win.
Regenerative agriculture provides many of those, especially in #agrivoltaics #permaculture and #BioChar
Josef Wimmer grows hops, used to make beer, and in recent years has also been generating electricity, with solar panels sprawled across 1.3 hectares (32 acres) of his land in the small hop-making town of Au in der Hallertau, an hour north of Munich in southern Germany. #ClimateProgress

Agri-PV offers the potential to solve the competition for land in the course of an increasing demand for space as well as the associated "plate-tank conflict".
This provides an opportunity for agriculture to adapt to climatic changes through synergies with PV modules (lower water consumption, reduction of the impact of negative weather events, etc...) too. #Agrivoltaics https://www.pressebox.de/pressemitteilung/next2sun-gmbh/Gemeinsames-Engagement-fuer-die-Verbindung-von-Landwirtschaft-Photovoltaik/boxid/1161319?utm_source=Belegmail&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=Aktiv

Some AI technology can help us live more sustainably. What do you think about using lasers to help avoid pesticide use?
I think that when paired with #Agrivoltaics producing the clean energy to do it right on the farm that it could work pretty well. We'll have to let the markets determine that though I reckon.

A Colorado State University study found that despite a 38% reduction in light availability, a C3 semi-arid grassland only reduced aboveground productivity and photosynthesis by 6%, pointing to the feasibility of grassland #Agrivoltaics https://pv-magazine-usa.com/2023/07/06/grassland-agrivoltaics-show-minimal-difference-in-forage-yield-to-traditional-growth/
