I’ve seen reports the flight was landing on instruments. Apparently Air Traffic Control, specifically Potomac Consolidated TRACON in Warrenton, VA, did reach out via radio to tell the pilot they were flying too low. Glad no one was killed. What a mess. #AirplaneCrash

You can find out quite a bit about the aircraft by searching for the aircraft N numbers. The B-17G is “N7227C," the P-63F is “N6763”.
