Candina is getting better with every new release. When first encountering them I've already been confident that the project would end up on the higher quality side with their songwriting abilities. I wouldn't have thought that it should happen so quickly, however. In such a way even that I would count this as one of the best releases of 2021.

I especially like the varied vocals on this one.

#Friisk - ...un torügg bleev blot Sand

Just a stunning atmosphere of nautical melancholy. As Ahab is one of my favorite bands ever this aspect of Friisk's songwriting was what caught my attention the most. It's a very welcome signature sound in this landscape that is overfilled with decent atmo bm bands. Regardless of that, the quality of the songs themselves is well above average anyway.

Discovered this as the #IntoTheNecrosphere podcast's AOTY for 2020, which is a fully justified pick. There are some special tones in here that make this very #atmospheric while not deviating too much from the genre's usual sound

After the mostly atmospheric entries in the list so far, here's something more gut punching. This masterpiece from last year hits hard and on point with a perfect mix and performance for unrelenting #blackmetal terror. Also love that blasphemous aesthetic with the interludes and even one full song (Vreveler) with atmospheric liturgy style chanting.

#Hænesy - Garabontzia

I've been exited for this since the announcement in January. Have to say it didn't disappoint one bit. The atmosphere is captured nicely between the stronger opening and closing tracks with their signature guitar sound. On top of that they managed to perfectly realize the theme of drowning by biblical flood.

The first one I've only discovered in January but it got itself straight to the top position. Ezkaton from #Ukraine have both outstanding #dsbm compositions, stellar execution and one of the best vocalists in the genre.
