#ScillyIsles are beautiful, as are the #ChannelIslands.
My personal favourite is #Alderney: 3 miles long, 1.5 miles wide, beaches, forts, history (some of it, it has to be said, quite saddening).
Off there in September. Can't wait.

This summer #Alderney will be featured in a leading French TV series ☀️
Scenes from 'Murder in Bayeux', the 97th series of thrills and drama from production company #QuadDrama and #FtsnceTelevision, were shot in Alderney's Braye Street, High Street and Library.

Today is #HolocaustMemorialDay.
Never forget: The #Holocaust also came to #British soil. More than 40,000 slaves died on the #German-occupied #Channel Island of #Alderney during #WW2, as part of #Himmler’s Extermination by Labour programme. The #SS murdered many #Jews in 11 #camps there.
We remember.

Carl Graves, director of the Egypt Exploration Society, talks about the woman and the book that forever changed the face of British Egyptology. Join us on the tiny Channel Island of #Alderney!

#Alderney is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, independent & self-governing. We are not and have never been part of England or the UK (as many people mistakenly think). 2/2

A bit more information on #Alderney is a rock 4 miles long x 1.5 miles long just off the west tip of the Cherbourg Peninsula (France). Like Guernsey and Jersey (our sister Channel Islands), the -ey end (meaning ‘island’) identified our Norse heritage.
Alderney is a Crown Dependency - it has been a personal fiefdom of the English monarch since 1066, when Duke William of Normandy (the Conqueror) became king of England. This means we owe allegiance to the monarch but not to their government. 1/2

Apart from # forensiclinguistics & archaeology, I'm also a huge fan of #historicalliterature. I organise an annual histlit festival on #Alderney, a tiny rock in the English Channel/La Manche.
