My personal favourite is : 3 miles long, 1.5 miles wide, beaches, forts, history (some of it, it has to be said, quite saddening).

A bit more information on is a rock 4 miles long x 1.5 miles long just off the west tip of the Cherbourg Peninsula (France). Like Guernsey and Jersey (our sister Channel Islands), the -ey end (meaning ‘island’) identified our Norse heritage.
Alderney is a Crown Dependency - it has been a personal fiefdom of the English monarch since 1066, when Duke William of Normandy (the Conqueror) became king of England. This means we owe allegiance to the monarch but not to their government. 1/2
