Latest read, A Real Life (1992) by Alice Munro, from Open Secrets. Unconventional, rugged Dorrie finds a second husband and moves to Australia, leaving behind her two Canadian friends.
Munro creates characters as if, like a Greek god, she breathed life into the pages of a book. Characters are uncannily real. You feel the saga of lives, and the melancholy of looking back, of remembrance, in just 28 pages.

Went to Kellogg College in this eve to a (free!) talk on Writing the Short Story by Dr , director of ’s MSt in and of collection Scar Tissue. She gave egs of talking about . : ‘a story is not a road to follow
 it’s more like a house.’ And being pithy: ‘Get in, get out. Don’t linger. Go on.’
