New journal #ImpactFactors are out. I know that it is highly disputed performance measure. It reflects rather whether authors produce papers that readers like and cite, than editorial foresight. That of NeoBiota increased to 5.1.

Still I am happy that our scientific community on #AlienSpecies (exotics, non-natives) value and trust our journal so much. Thank you to authors, reviewers, associate and special editors and the great production team at Pensoft Publishers.

A new study (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2530064423000214) found that the global economic impact of biological invasions is equivalent in magnitude to that of natural disasters such as earthquakes, fires, floods and storms.

The costs of biological invasions have increased more rapidly than those of natural disasters over the past 4 decades.

Societies need to build a culture of safety & resilience against the threat of #BiologicalInvasions - just as we have done for natural hazards.

A #tiger escaped from a residence and roamed the countryside outside Johannesburg, South Africa, for four days this month. It attacked a man and killed several animals.

Tigers aren’t native to South Africa and are considered an alien species. Its escape highlights the country’s controversial commercial captive breeding industry and the key role South Africa plays in the international big cat trade.

Seit Wochen denke ich darüber nach das der Kontakt mit Außerirdischen Lebensformen wohl keine gute Idee wäre.
Selbst wenn sie friedlich wären könnte der Austausch von Viren und Bakterien die Auslöschung gleich zweier Spezies bedeuten.

There is value in using lakes & rivers as outdoor laboratories for studying #invasivespecies. Outdoor mesocosm expts can be very informative and compelling.
