So. #AllQuietontheWesternFront Damn. That was superb. And so very, very muddy.

So much death and pain for just nothing. War is great, eh?

As a film it's an incredibly impressive piece. Uncompromising, brutal and tragic. And you're right in there with them. In all the mud, blood and death.

This adaptation of #AllQuietOnTheWesternFront weaves in real German history through Brühl’s character and plot line while bringing an actual German perspective to this very German tale. It’s on Netflix now and honestly should be seen in theaters. It’s astounding. Score rips too!

That’s nothing for what follows in #AllQuietOnTheWesternFront - a movie that supposedly Paul Schrader (on FB?) called the closest you can get to an anti-war movie. It weaves in real history into the adaptation in fresh ways too. Daniel Brühl’s character wasn’t in the book…

#AllQuietOnTheWesternFront is such a brutal look at German young adults sent to death on the frontlines that I was floored on the amount of emotion it brims with. The opening sequence into the titles into introducing out protagonist is a whole segment of the movie my brain is on.

Lastly with #AllQuietOnTheWesternFront, Germany has made something special that harnesses the cultural shame and guilt felt by so many who have come after these great wars. From a book written over 90 years ago by a German soldier, this is the first GERMAN adaptation of it!
