Just realized that the #Altmetric score of a paper keeps on going up when people/journalists tweet/write about its #retraction :blobfacepalm:

Using Altmetric data for 2022, Carbon Brief has compiled its list of the 25 most talked-about climate or energy-related papers that were published the previous year.

Apparently I was looking up #Altmetric at some point in the last few months and left that tab open. Does anyone actually use it actively and for what? I'm guessing #mastodon is not actually included (yet?) Which is a pity..
Suggestions on what and how and why to use #Altmetrics welcome, på forhånd tak🙏

#Altmetric's inclusion of social media in its metric is nice on paper, but I realized it is a bit silly. Write a paper with a really bad take -> infuriate a lot of Twitteratti giving critical responses -> get high values of Altmetric.
Use of #citations as a metric has the same problem. No one would have the tools to verify whether all these citations are +ve or -ve!
@tfardet Looks like an applause button with some integration with ORCID. For example like:
Which may not necessarily indicate the value of the paper. Also, looks like it is neither decentralized nor open-source. Anyways, I am unsure how such applications can be decentralized
#Altmetric on the other hand is a step in the right direction, because it would include citations + "mentions" of publication across the web. See for example:
