I've given up on the first try at casting on 84 stitches on a 60 cm needle. It didn't stretch easily enough to make it feasible to knit the first row. Considering switching to 6 mm points for the cast on to get it a bit looser before switching back to 5 mm.
So I started on a tension square for a different yarn to use with that neck warmer. And the net result ten rows in is that I have no idea how the pattern as written is going to stretch enough to fit over my head. I think I shall find a different pattern to use with the lovely lovely yarn.
I suppose I could try bumping up the neck section from 84 stitches in a round, but any such experiment will be with two 100g skeins of something I don't mind wasting, not one of hand-dyed.
Started the tension square for the neckwarmer project last night. It is the first tension square I have knitted. It is the first project where tension matters. It is the first time I have used some lovely and expensive hand dyed yarn. I am... nervous.
Also, there seem to be a lot of metres in that tension square. I'm not convinced that the single 100g ball the pattern calls for is sufficient.
I thought at first the colours had faded, but it seems to have brightened up now, so it may have been the lighting by the washing machine. We shall see. Anyway, I'd better unpin it and put the blocking kit away before Other Half arrives home and stands on it, because there will be Complaints otherwise.
Trying to distribute 8 stitches across 4 slick DPNs and to the pattern author who called this, "A fiddly moment," a sincere fuck you.

Once again down the yarn rabbit hole... See toot about someone's temperature blanket. Google for patterns. Go to Lion Brand website. Think "while I'm here I'll look at the other patterns". Ooh, snoods. And that one is a kit on sale. What other kits. What's that yarn? There's a clearance tab... Hemp yarn! Half price! What patterns...
I already have several years' worth of yarn.
But I do not have any hemp yarn! And it is a bulky yarn so I have some hope of finishing within a year... #AmKnitting

Ok, it took quite a while to upload but it looks like image posts work now! #AmKnitting #Knitting https://ravel.me/kayray/hl
Oh look, with stitch markers I can do a whole wedge during one period! Alas, it turns out that am a stitch short on the other sock, but I did that one last night so I can't blame it on hockey. :knitting: #AmKnitting #HockeyAndKnitting

OK, so. Taking out everything I did during that game and starting over, with two stitch markers, from the beginning of this heel wedge.
Thank goodness I'm not having a beer! I think I could manage hockey + beer + stockinette knitting. Maybe. I may have done so in the past? But not this heel stuff!

Just use a second stitch marker, Stel! This will be so much easier! "It's so easy to tell where to turn on the right-side rows" I said. I was wrong! It is hard to tell when you're watching hockey, and then two rows later you're not sure if it's right or not so you have to unknit to make sure. Make it easy and use a second stitch marker. #HockeyAndKnitting #AmKnitting

I did walk the dog! And now I get to make lots of mistakes while working a new-to-me heel technique whist watching hockey. 🏒 & :knitting:

Trying really, really hard to not pick up my knitting and keep going but I need to walk the dog and long-term life goals would have me go clean the new place instead of sitting here all cozy and playing with heel construction. :knitting: #AmKnitting

I stayed up and did the thing. The wedges go much, must faster when I A) know what I'm doing and B) put a split ring marker that I can move to help me keep track of where to turn on the wrong-side rows. The right-side rows are pretty obvious but I miscounted my purls* more than once on my first wedge attempt. :knitting: #AmKnitting
*Imagine some 50s-era housewives and one is saying "I miscounted my purls" while knitting and another clutches her pearls in horror.
